We have always wanted to visit the Austrian Lakes & Salzburg, so when we saw this trip, with the opportunity to visit Cesky Krumlov in the Czech Republic, we decided that it was the ideal trip for us.

Once on our lovely, comfortable Silver Service coach we relaxed with a chance to admire the scenery with plenty of refreshments, on board entertainment and comfort stops before we reached the wonderful Gruner Baum Hotel in Austria. Family run, it is a spotless hotel with excellent food and staff who really make one feel special, so a chance to spend 6 nights here was eagerly anticipated.

Our trip to Salzburg with the optional guided walking tour, which we joined, was wonderful. In brilliant sunshine we took a carriage ride around the city as well as a visit up to the castle by funicular railway, where we had superb views over the city and surrounding countryside.
The next day we visited the Salzkammergut Lakes. At Mondsee we visited the "wedding church" where the Von Trapp wedding from the film, The Sound of Music was filmed.

On to St Gilgen where we decided to take a trip 1,522m up the Zwolferhorn mountain by cable car. The views from the summit were spectacular over the lakes and snow-capped mountains beyond. We continued afterwards to visit Hallstatt, a very pretty town hanging off the edge of the cliffs, and then to Gmunden.

Vienna was our next outing, where we had an excellent guided tour with a very informative guide, who offered to stay for an extra 1/2hr to do a mini walking tour in the city centre.

Thursday saw us on the optional excursion to Cesky Krumlov. What a fantastic place! Superb views from the castle, bears in the moat and lovely cobbled streets with unusual shops. We were able to sample local Czech cuisine as well as purchase some Bohemian glass. This is a trip not to be missed!

Our final day in Austria included a visit to St Wolfgang and a trip up to the 1,783m Schafbergspitze on the Schafberg cog railway, where we were expecting more panoramic views of the lakes, unfortunately the mist came in and we couldn’t see much (glad we had taken our trip on the cable car earlier in the week!) However, the train ride was superb, winding up the mountain, so we weren't disappointed.

Heading home, we were really amazed at how much we had packed into our time in Austria, and although this trip was over, we look forward to our future trips with our "Leger family", which are already booked.

Silver service is definitely the way to travel, as we are so well looked after by the experienced crews. We couldn't imagine travelling any other way now that we have been totally spoiled by Leger!
