never sleeps’, we start our day with an  included guided city tour. You will see all of the major sights before having ample free time to explore this amazing city. Perhaps take a ride in a jaunting car in Central Park, or a journey to the top of the Empire State Building, shop on Fifth Avenue or in Bloomingdales, take a boat trip around the harbour, the choice is endless
  • Day 3 – New Jersey, Mystic. Free time this morning or perhaps join our optional Harlem Gospel Tour. After lunch we depart by coach with our tour escort, travelling through Connecticut to Mystic. The relaxed charm of New England can be felt all through the town with its dozens of quaint shops and restaurants.
  • Day 4Mystic Seaport, Newport, Providence and Rhode Island (included). After  breakfast we have a tour of the lovely  Mystic Seaport. Situated on the banks of the Mystic River in Connecticut, this recreated 19th century village and waterfront  community is a living history maritime  museum. Each of the buildings is genuine, transported from all over New England and meticulously restored. Take a walk around the houses and stores and talk to the friendly guides whose stories will help bring the place to life. You can also visit the Waterfront, featuring tall ships and other historic vessels that you can climb aboard and explore. We continue on to Newport, Rhode Island. This picturesque resort is the sailing capital of the world and once an  exclusive resort of the rich and famous. We will take in the delightful surroundings and visit two magnificent Mansions of the ‘aristocracy’ (entrance included) before travelling northwards to Providence, capital of Rhode Island for an overnight stay.
  • Day 5 – Old Sturbridge Village and Stockbridge (included). Prepare to step back in time this morning as our first visit is to Old Sturbridge Village, a recreated farm village depicting New England life and times of the early 19th century. Guides wearing period costume, cook and farm the land, recreating the atmosphere of a bygone era. There’s over 40 original buildings here set amongst 200 acres, including a store, pottery, homes, a school, a printing office, plus many more, along with authentic water-powered mills and covered bridges. This afternoon we travel along the delightful country lanes of Massachusetts to Stockbridge in the heart of The Berkshires. Take a deep breath, inhale the Berkshire mountain air and slow your pace to match the town's character. Perhaps take a look at the historic Red Lion Inn – a famous staging post located at the centre of the historic village of Stockbridge, whose beginnings date back to the 18th century. Later this afternoon we travel to the capital of New York State, Albany.
  • Day 6 – Vermont (included). Cameras at the ready today as we travel through some of the most beautiful areas of Vermont. Our first stop will be at Old  Bennington ‘a special place where Vermont begins’. Old Bennington is rich in history and the arts, and known for its museums and other attractions. The centrepiece of the village is the delightful clapboard church and steeple known as Vermont’s colonial shrine. We continue to Manchester a favourite with 19th century U.S Presidents, passing through quaint old villages and the Green Mountain National Forest. Weston is our next stop – a village virtually untouched by time and some would say the prettiest  village in Vermont. We then head to  Woodstock via Plymouth. First settled in 1768, Woodstock retains the elegant charm and rugged character of American antiquity with stately homes surrounding the village green. Certainly a day to remember before heading south for our overnight stay  in Keene in New Hampshire.
  • Day 7 – Cambridge, Lexington, (included); Boston. After breakfast we travel firstly to Cambridge, located across the Charles River from Boston. Cambridge is the home of the oldest institution of higher learning in the U.S., Harvard  University. Spend time exploring the old town, soak up the atmosphere of a town where classical culture thrives and multi  culture is a way of life. Then to Concord, another historic town, and site of the first American victory. We then travel to Lexington, famous for being the site of the opening shots of the American Revolution. The events in 1775 sparked the confrontation that would launch a nation, the beginning of the War of Independence. Today Lexington is a quiet residential area, forever known as the  birthplace of  American liberty. Continue to our hotel in the outskirts of Boston for  two nights.
  • Day 8 – Boston Sightseeing (included). We drive into Boston for a full day of guided sightseeing. Boston is a compact city with a superb blend of historical buildings and a modern skyline, synonymous with any major North American city. You will visit the sight of the famous Boston Tea Party – as we drive through Beacon Hill look out for the brass plates and old gas lamps and see the gilt dome of the Massachusetts State House. We will visit Charlestown where the USS Constitution is moored, probably better known as ‘Old Ironsides’, the world’s oldest commissioned ship and undefeated in battle. Situated opposite the beautiful Public Garden, another famous and modern  landmark is the Bull and Finch Pub – home of ‘Cheers’. The façade of the pub is recognisable as the inspiration for the  American T.V. series. Boston is an excellent shopping centre where you can browse glass-enclosed arcades, meander open-air marketplaces and stroll among independent brownstone boutiques. We will also see Faneuil Hall and Quincy Market, built in 1822 to cater for the shopping demands of this now expanding city. This vibrant area is set around a  cobblestone promenade where street entertainers gather, and where you’ll find an abundance of delightful shops and  tempting eateries.
  • Day 9Boston. This morning there will be free time to enjoy Boston before transferring to Boston’s Logan Airport for the return flight home.
