Your Holiday Itinerary

5-Day Break

  • Day 1 – Fly to Madrid, where you will be met and transferred to your hotel for four nights.
  • Day 2 – Avila and Segovia (included). Enjoy an excursion around Castille, to the medieval walled towns of Avila and Segovia. Heading north-west from Madrid, we travel first to Avila, a World Heritage Site, which rises from the ground, underneath the dramatic backdrop of the Gredos Sierra. Behind its walls a myriad of beauty can be discovered; Romanesque and Gothic architecture; Renaissance churches and palaces, all examples of the bygone splendour of the city. After time for lunch, we continue to Segovia. The old quarter and Roman aqueduct are also World Heritage Sites. Segovia, quite rightly lays claim to being the most spectacularly
    sited city in Spain, built high on a rocky spur and surrounded by the Eresma and Clamores Rivers. In addition to its famous aqueduct, numerous Romanesque churches, the Cathedral and Fortress create a magnificent landscape that presides over this part of Castille. B
  • Day 3 – Toledo (optional). Today we offer an optional excursion to Toledo, picturesquely situated on a hill above the River Tagus. Toledo is often regarded as the Spanish city with the greatest wealth of monuments. Known as the ‘city of the three cultures’, because Christians, Arabs and Jews lived there for centuries, behind
    its walls, Toledo preserves its artistic and cultural legacy in the form of churches, palaces, fortresses, mosques and synagogues. This diversity is best represented in the old quarter B
  • Day 4 – Madrid (included); Madrid Sightseeing (included). The capital of Spain lies in the heart of the country, 646 metres above sea level, making it the highest capital in Europe. Madrid is a truly cosmopolitan city and possesses a wealth of cultural attractions. The splendid Plaza Mayor provides the perfect starting point to explore Old Madrid, lined with beautifully muralled buildings. See the huge Palacio Real (Royal Palace), a landmark of the city, explore the Paseo del Prado of Bourbon Madrid and enjoy a stroll around the magnificent Retiro Park. Our included guided tour will show you many of the highlights of the city. B
  • Day 5 – To Madrid Airport for the return ?ight home. B
